Research

"We talked about flight and voted for our role play corner. We chose an airport."
"We went to the Wetlands Centre to see different birds."

"There was a flamingo there."

"There was a swan there."

"The best bit was when we went in the park. We went in the tunnels. We liked the slide."

"We saw ducks, moorhens and ne ne. One ne ne was called Limpy because he had a bad leg."

"The ducks came to get our food at lunch time."

Visit from the 'Bird Man'

"The Bird Man brought birds of prey to school."

"He brought an eagle owl, a buzzard, a bateleur eagle, a barn owl, a tawny owl and a kestral."

"They had talons on their feet."

Developing Looking and Drawing Skills

We did lots of patterns in circles."
"We did little fat lines."
"We did some wiggly lines, invisible lines, dark lines and normal lines."
"We did spirals and straight lines. We did zig-zags and we did dots."
"We put the little frame (viewfinder) on top of where we wanted to draw and copied it."
"We used our eyes to look closely and draw a necklace, a bug and a soft toy."

Designing a Mythical Creature

"We designed Mythical Creatures. They needed wings to fly. We drew them in our Leonardo books."

Adding colour with ink and water

"We drew our Mythical Creature on some watercolour paper. We put water on him with a paintbrush, then we put ink on and it spread. It wouldn't work if the water wasn't there. The ink would just stay."
